All roads, bridges, dams, airports, railways etc are called as civil work. So the planning, designing and construction & maintenance of these public works is what civil engineering is all about. The branch of civil engineering is one the fore most branch of engineering which was started in the inaugural year of 1958. This branch is well associated with various public departments such as ESIC, Indian railways, IPR etc. There are two main courses provided, one is B. Tech Civil Engineering and a post graduate program named M. Tech Structural Engineering & construction Management.
There are seven well equipped laboratories and a workshop designed for the under graduate program. The labs are Geo – Technical Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Concrete, Strength of Materials, Survey, Environmental Engineering and Computational. The workshop is for Civil Engineering. There are three labs for the post graduate program namely Computational, Structural Dynamics and Structural Engineering. Apart from labs and workshops, the department of civil engineering also has their own Geology Museum.
